| Orcas Beaten By Empire, 3-1 | The New York Empire got a magnificent performance from pitcher Willie de Leon, who muffled the Vancouver offense en route to a tight, 3-1 Empire win at Empire Ballpark. de Leon, now 4-0, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 4, and allowing 1 run. The triumph puts New York at 22-17 for the season.
Cruz Arteaga had a big run-scoring double for the Empire in the bottom of the fourth inning. With New York leading 2-1 and a runner on 2nd, he got a cutter from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Lee Steele and swatted a double to left. It was his 10th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Empire ahead, 3-1.
"Chalk one up for the good guys," said de Leon. "I'm sure our fans enjoyed that win."
