| Sunrays Victors, 3-1, at Portland | In a low-scoring contest, Tampa Bay pitcher Terry Whitten was marvelous, enabling his team to nab a 3-1 win. The Sunrays raised their record to 7-7.
Tampa Bay used the hitting of Mike Fantini to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Sunrays on top, 2-0. For the game, Fantini had 1 home run and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Tampa Bay manager David Fields said.
