| Firebirds Score Late, Stun Rangers, 8-6 | Houston got a terrific performance from pitcher Victor Garcia, but it wasn't enough to beat the Phoenix Firebirds. Phoenix won the Globe Life Field contest, 8-6. Garcia threw 7.1 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Juan Reyes claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 4 runs on 3 hits in 1.1 innings. His record stands at 1-2. Phoenix has now won 3 in a row.
Phoenix used a timely hit from Michael Gartman to get the win. The right fielder stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Firebirds ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Gartman said after the game.
