Rangers Absorb 8-1 Home Loss
Portland pitcher Phil Drake did his part in helping his team defeat the Houston Rangers, 8-1. The opposition could never get too much going against the right-hander. The winning pitcher was Drake, now 5-6. He tossed 5.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 5. Jesus Guzman, credited with the save, is now 1 for 1 in save opportunities.

Diego Martinez had a big 2-run triple for the Ducks in the top of the fourth inning. With Portland leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Jorge Rodriquez, who is tied for 4th in the UL in quality starts with 11, and swatted a triple to left-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Ducks ahead, 3-0.

"I thought we played a nice game," Martinez told the Portland Bulletin. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."

Portland now sports a record of 33-43.
