| Hawks Thwart Rangers, 3-1 | Jorge Rodriquez, who finished 4th in the UL in wins with 10 last year, pitched well, but the Houston Rangers still fell short, losing, 3-1, to the Chicago Hawks at Hawks Park. Picking up the save was Jeff Slack, his 10th. Chicago leads the United North Division by 6½ games.
The Hawks got a big at-bat from third baseman Jose Baez. For the game, Baez went 1 for 4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 12th double of the season gave Chicago a 2-1 lead.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Baez told the Chicago News.
