| Firebirds Beat Leon, 2-1 | The Phoenix Firebirds faced a tenacious opponent in Leon pitcher Bill Dale, but still scratched out a win at Firebirds Ballpark by a final score of 2-1 in 10 innings. Dale went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. Mike Vega earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He upped his record to 3-1. With the victory, the Firebirds upped their record to 38-30.
Batting in the bottom of the tenth, 26-year old shortstop Varsken Artsruni had a real shot to win the game. Leon pitcher Scott Benedict was determined not to let it happen. But with no outs, Artsruni hit a run-scoring single. The Firebirds had a walk-off triumph.
"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager David Fields.
