| Smith Powers Pioneers to 6-5 Win | San Francisco catcher Mike Smith had a 4-RBI game, which helped his team beat the Portland Ducks, 6-5. Chris Martin earned the save for San Francisco, his 11th. The win elevated the Pioneers to 23-13.
Smith contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for San Francisco in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Smith took a fastball from Harry Landers and stroked the home run to right. His 6th home run of the season allowed the Pioneers to leap in front, 3-1.
"Enjoyed this one," Smith told the San Francisco Observer. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
