| Pioneers Victors, 3-1, at Phoenix | Ricky Martinez, who is tied for 5th in the UL in innings pitched with 66.2, imposed his will on the Firebirds from the get-go. Relying mainly on his cutter, the right-hander spearheaded the 3-1 San Francisco triumph. The save went to Chris Martin, number 14 for him. San Francisco is now 30-19, 2 games up in the United South Division.
Brian Covington, who is tied for 9th in the UL in doubles with 13, had a direct impact on the outcome. Covington contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the second inning to put San Francisco up, 1-0.
"I still think this team can play even better," Covington told the San Francisco Observer.
