| Hawks Deal Rangers 6-1 Loss | The Chicago Hawks rode a solid performance from 22-year-old starting pitcher Stephen Wilkins to a win, beating the Houston Rangers, 6-1, at Globe Life Field. The winning pitcher was Wilkins, now 7-2. He tossed 6.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 3. Chicago goes to 44-17. The win puts them 15½ games up in their division.
Chicago won the game in part because of Jose Baez. The third baseman ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Hawks ahead, 2-0. For the game, Baez had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Wilkins. "Successful pitchers do it."
