| Hawks, Hightower Deal Firebirds 4-0 Setback | Derrick Hightower pitched a gem to lead Chicago to victory over the Phoenix Firebirds, 4-0. Earning his 30th save of the year was Jeff Slack. Chicago improves to 62-20 with the win. They lead their division by 22½ games.
It was an impressive turn from the legendarily hard-working Hightower, who tallied 4 strikeouts in 8.1 innings while allowing just 6 hits. Hightower, who is tied for 10th in the UL in wins with 7, goes to 7-2 on the year with 75 strikeouts.
"Young guys to old guys," said Hightower, "we're all going out there and doing what it takes to win."
