Starting pitcher Tom Boatright pitched well enough to help the Minneapolis Marauders beat the New York Empire, 6-3. The save went to B.J. Howe, his 24th this season. The triumph puts Minneapolis at 59-49 for the season.

The Empire had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Marauders going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old shortstop Tony Rodriguez came to the plate. Rodriguez hit a 2-run home run on a 1-0 fastball from New York hurler Tim Lugo. It was Rodriguez's 15th home run of the year.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Rodriguez. "And not try to do too much."
