| Hawks Edge Past Queens, 5-4 | The Chicago Hawks faced a tough opponent in Denver pitcher Carlos Juarez, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Hawks Park by a final score of 5-4. Juarez went 6 innings and allowed no runs. Chicago pitcher Ilpo Kekkonen got the win. He's now 2-0. Mike Walters was tagged with the loss. The Hawks, now 8-3, have played some good baseball in the early going.
The Hawks were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when slugging second baseman Matt Shinn landed a big blow. He turned a 1-1 knuckle curve from Mike Walters into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Hawks Park denizens into a frenzy and sent the Hawks home with a thrilling 5-4 win.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Shinn said.
