| Orange Sneak Past Jackals, 3-2 | Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Jacksonville Jackals home opener. Dave Smith started for the home team against Mitch Burgess for the Orlando Orange. The Jackals were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 3-2, Orlando. Dave Smith, though, was impressive. David Kumler snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-0 on the season. Dave Smith suffered the loss. Picking up his 1st save was 22-year old left-handed pitcher Franklin Garcia.
Bernard McAleer came through with a big-time hit for Orlando. The third baseman smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said McAleer. "And not try to do too much."
