Good production from second baseman Brian Covington helped the San Francisco Pioneers topple the Chicago Hawks, 13-2. Covington was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 doubles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Pioneers. Devin Ballard got the win, improving to 3-2. He worked 5.1 innings, giving up 2 runs on 2 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 4. The save went to Jay Hobbs, number 1 for him.

In the top of the third, Covington had a run-scoring double for San Francisco. It was his 11th double of the season and put the Pioneers on top, 1-0.

"I still think this team can play even better," Covington told the San Francisco Observer.
