Queens Earn 5-4 Win Against Mammoths | Though the conditions were not ideal, the Denver Queens and Montreal Mammoths came back from a rain delay to finish their game.
The Denver Queens picked up a win at Queens Field, knocking off the Montreal Mammoths, 5-4. Starting pitcher Willis Novoa played a key role in the triumph. Mike Walters, now 2-3, was credited with the win in 1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 1 and walking 2.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Denver left fielder Al Burke, facing John Mansel, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Queens the 5-4 win.
"Willis was good -- real good," said Queens manager David Fields.
Denver, at 34-38, holds down second place in the United North Division. | | | | |
