Pioneers Defeat Mounties, 7-5 | The San Francisco Pioneers downed the Toronto Mounties, 7-5. The hitting star was center fielder Peter Franken. Franken was 4 for 5 with a home run and 2 doubles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Pioneers. San Francisco reliever Rene Juarez snagged the win, upping his record to 2-0. Jose Nicolas shouldered the loss. Chris Martin closed the door for San Francisco, picking up his 3rd save of the year.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter George Katsman came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Toronto pitcher Jose Nicolas, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting San Francisco on top, 4-3.
