Pioneers Earn 12-7 Home Win
The San Francisco Pioneers beat the Toronto Mounties, 12-7, at Pioneers Park. The win was due in part to third baseman Cody Cherry, who was 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Ricky Martinez, who is tied for 5th in the UL with a 10.0 K/9 rate, was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, with no walks and 5 strikeouts. San Francisco raised its record to 28-16 with the win.

The Pioneers got a big hit from first baseman Jermaine Shinn. In the bottom of the sixth, Shinn smacked a 3-run home run off Toronto pitcher Richard Cruz. It was his 8th home run of the season. Suddenly, the Pioneers were ahead, 4-2.

"We maximized our offense today," said San Francisco skipper David Fields. "That makes everyone's life easier."
