| Pioneers Rally Late to Nip Hawks | Despite a great performance by Chicago designated hitter Mark Hamlett, the San Francisco Pioneers defeated the Hawks by the score of 5-4 at Hawks Park. Hamlett was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. San Francisco reliever Rene Juarez picked up the win, raising his record to 7-2. Malcolm Fields was tagged with the loss. The save went to Chris Martin, number 23 for him.
San Francisco needed the clutch hitting of George Katsman to seal the deal. The designated hitter swatted a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Pioneers on top, 5-4. For the game, Katsman had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Nice to tuck this win away," said Katsman.
San Francisco is now 61-34, 11½ games up in the United South Division.
