| Pioneers Win at Montreal, 9-2 | San Francisco got a strong outing from Phil Racine as the Pioneers defeated the Montreal Mammoths, 9-2, at Mammoths Field. Racine, now 8-1, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 8, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. The United South Division-leading Pioneers have a record of 29-19.
Eddie Hernandez had a clutch at-bat with no one out in the top of the sixth for the Pioneers. Coming up with the bases loaded and San Francisco trailing 2-1, he hit a 2-run single.
"We took a roundhouse punch to the chin," said losing manager David Fields.
