At the age of 22, Mario Cardenas of the Minneapolis Marauders could very well have his best years ahead of him.

It's a startling thought when you consider the year he had in 2027 was good enough to win the second baseman the Independent Most Valuable Player Award.

"See the ball, hit the ball," he said. "That's my basic approach."

The top hitter put up a .303 batting average this year, as well as a .390 on-base percentage. He played 100 games and racked up 122 hits, 28 doubles, 4 triples, 30 home runs, 68 RBIs and 74 runs scored.

He received 19 first place votes out of a possible 20. Josh Johnson of the Seattle Evergeens finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Danny Nunez of the New York Empire finished third.
