Cherry has not only found his way, he's already established himself as one of the game's brightest stars, today being named the winner of the United Most Valuable Player Award.
"I didn't expect to hit .311 this year, that's for sure," the third baseman said.
The San Francisco Pioneers star also put up a .425 on-base percentage this year, with 110 hits, 23 doubles, 1 triple, 36 home runs, 90 RBIs and 89 runs scored.
He received 17 first place votes out of a possible 20. Jose Olivas of the Toronto Mounties finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Matt Shinn of the Chicago Hawks finished third with 1 first place vote.
